Since becoming the seventh president of Irvine Valley College (IVC) in Fall 2020, it has been my distinct honor to lead this remarkable institution through a time of transformation, resilience, and growth. On behalf of our faculty, staff, and students, I’m pleased to welcome you to IVC.
For 40 years, IVC has been a place of opportunity, hope, and progress. Our students earn degrees, build careers, and transfer to top universities across the nation. In 2025 alone, IVC graduates were accepted to all nine UC campuses, Cal State universities, and prestigious institutions like Columbia, Michigan, Amherst, and Oregon. We also celebrated a record 455 Honors Program graduates, reflecting the academic strength and spirit of our college.
IVC serves over 23,000 students annually from across Southern California and more than 38 countries. We offer more than 90 associate degrees and over 70 certificate programs in the liberal arts, sciences, and advanced technologies—with flexible options for in-person, online, and hybrid learning. We’re proud to lead Orange County in UC transfers and to be ranked the #1 community college in California and #6 in the nation by WalletHub.
As we celebrate our 40th anniversary, we’re investing in the future. In Spring 2025, we began construction on two major projects: a new 50,000-square-foot Student Services Center and a 25,000-square-foot Student Union. Together, these LEED Gold-equivalent buildings will serve as the heart of campus—centralizing support services and creating new spaces for connection, events, and student life. Completion is expected by Fall 2027, with a redesigned central quad to follow in Spring 2028.
Other exciting updates include the new Arts Promenade and Coffee Structure, and a fully renovated library now open for students. At our IVC at ATEP campus in Tustin, we continue to expand career education to meet regional workforce needs.
We also offer a dynamic student experience. With 60+ active clubs and organizations, a thriving esports program, and standout athletics, student life at IVC is vibrant and inclusive. Our growing dual enrollment programs open doors for high school students to earn college credit and get a head start on their academic goals. Meanwhile, our Basic Needs Center, The Spot, ensures students have access to essentials like food, clothing, and housing support.
IVC offers exceptional value. First-time, full-time students may qualify for free tuition through the Irvine Valley Promise, which also includes bookstore vouchers, dedicated counseling, and personalized support. Compared to private colleges and public universities, IVC provides a high-quality education at a significantly lower cost.
If you’re exploring what IVC has to offer, I invite you to browse our website. Whether you’re just getting started or continuing your education, you’ll find a welcoming, innovative, and student-centered community here to help you reach your goals.
We look forward to welcoming you to Irvine Valley College—where your future begins.
Warmly,
John C. Hernandez, Ph.D.
President, Irvine Valley College
