The Mathematics, Engineering, Science Achievement (MESA) Program was established at Irvine Valley College in the Spring 2023 semester. MESA began as a social justice movement in 1970 after a group of concerned educators explored why so few Black, African American, Latina/o/e and Native Americans pursued degrees in engineering. Since its inception, MESA has sought to expand access and achievement in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. For the full history, visit History of MESA.
The mission of the MESA Program at Irvine Valley College is to ensure equity in access and achievement within our science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) majors. The MESA Program is committed to the success of economically and educationally disadvantaged students in calculus-based STEM fields.
