The counseling faculty assists students in clarifying their needs, making decisions, setting goals and dealing effectively with personal obstacles. The Counseling program also allows students to begin exploring counseling theory, communication skills, counseling intervention strategies, and assessment methods and procedures.
Students interested in counseling as a career often major in Psychology, Sociology, or other similar behavioral science majors.
Counseling prepares students with the educational and personal skills and support necessary for college, career and life.
Counseling appointments are offered in a number of the counseling support centers, such as the Counseling Department, Career and Transfer Center, EOPS, DSPS, International Student Center, AESL Center, Veterans Resource Center, and Re-Entry Center. In addition, students can take advantage of the MAP (My Academic Plan) Lab and workshops offered in the Student Empowerment Center.
